Instructions for getting a complete stranger to smile!

Step 1- go up to the person you want to smile and say “Hello.”

Step 2- if they say “Hello,” back then tell them a joke or funny story if they don’t say hello back pretend to trip or fall over, And make sure they help you up not anyone else.

Step 3- tell them a joke or funny story if you haven’t already.

Step 4- if they are not smiling yet you need to smile at them with your most craziest smile.

Step 5- if there not smiling yet ask if they have ever eaten a burnt and seriously overcooked snail before. This will be sure to get a smile and the answer is most likely be “NO WAY.” But if they say “Yes I have there delicious,” be sure to smile at them and slowly walk off in the opposite direction of the person…

Melted Crayon Art

A while ago room 7 decided to do some melted crayon art, this is a picture of my one. Its a bird sitting in the rain. I had to tilt my canvas so the crayon didn't go over my bird.

I  am glad my picture turned out so wonderfull and its already on my wall at home.

It was cool how the heat gun made more straight melted lines and the hair dryer made smudged markes.

Energy and Sound

Over the past 5 weeks at school we've been learning about energy. Energy is something that cannot be destroyed or created only changed that means we will always have the same amount of energy in the world . we have also looked into sound and how it travels we have done lots of experiments in class around sound. for example we tied a long piece wool onto a spoon and wrapped the wool around our fingers and put our fingers in our ears.We then swung the spoon into the desk. it sounded like charms swinging and hitting a table.
We also found out that sound travels at 332 meters per second and light could travel around earth 7 times per second because light travels faster than sound.
we also found out sound travels threw solids and liquids faster than inn the air. Also you can't hear inside a vacuum because there is no air inside it.

we learnt some interesting things over the past few weeks i learnt that.
-Light travels faster than sound.
- sound travels at 332 meters per second.
- you can't hear inside a vacuum.
- it takes 1 second for light to travel 7 times around earth.
- sound travels faster through solids and liquids than air.

Athletics

As I walk into the circle I feel exited and worried. I pick up the shotput and hold it up by my face and lean back, then when I go back forward I let go of the shotput. As I go to walk out of the circle I here 4 meters 23 cms.

Its athletics day at Te Pahu school and Paterangi school have joined us here on a amazing summer day.

As the bell goes we make our way over to the relays I'm in the 12 year old girls for green house. As I run I can feel my legs fill up with pain. I put my arm out to pass the batten to Daniel when 'smash.' we ran into each other but i still painfully walk to the back of the line.

We do athletics so we can get more sporty and more like athletes. Personally I don't see the point.

We had a nice lunch supplied by the PTA. I bought a juicey and a popcorn that costed me $1.50.

Overall I enjoyed the day, But i still have really sore legs and arms. I got third in shotput, discuss and sprints.

Clearing and planting at Pirongia Lodge

Last week Room 7 joined Pirongia School's  year 7-8 class for a clearing and planting day at the Pirongia Lodge outdoor classroom. It was hard work planting over a few hundred trees. In a few years the classroom will be surrounded by native trees and bush

When we first got there we carried the plants down and began planting. We were in pairs one of us dug the hole and the other planted the tree. I was with Breanna. She spent forever digging a hole for this fern.
"Its not big enough yet, the plant won't fit in the hole," I kept saying.

It was annoying how the blackberry stuck to our pants and we couldn't get it off.

I think the plants will look really cool when they grow a bit and the outdoor classroom will be perfect to teach kids about nature.
